Application and Permitting Process – Well Sites

The drilling and production of oil and gas wells in British Columbia is regulated by the BC Energy Regulator. The Oil and Gas Wells: Drilling Activity fact sheet provides an overview of these processes and an explanation on the stages of drilling. The graphic below outlines the steps taken from the time a company negotiates a surface lease agreement with a landowner or receives a Right of Entry through the Surface Rights Board to the production stage of a well.
