Soil Mapping and Classification Tool

The Government of British Columbia has created the BC Soil Information Finder Tool (SIFT), an interactive tool and soil survey map that provides data specific to the different regions of the province.

In this tool you will find the soil survey map, which provides information for each survey unit including a description of the soils and data on soil textures and soil drainage.

The agriculture capability map uses data about the climate and attributes of the soil to assign capability classes and subclasses. These classifications reflect the range of crops and what would be considered management limitations to agricultural practices relevant to both cultivated and forage crops.

For more guidance in using this tool, please contact the Ministry of Agriculture and Food by phone 1-888-221-7141 or by email agriservicebc@gov.bc.ca.
